The area lies about 400 meters below sea level, creating an especially dry and hot climate with temperatures around 40 °C. The Dead Sea salt is obtained by evaporating the mineral-rich water. Under the intense sun, the salt crystallizes in shallow basins and is then harvested mechanically. After drying, it is cleaned, sieved to the medium grain size of 1.0–2.5 mm, and filled as granulated bulk goods for Biova.
