Product information "Pequin chili | ground | red | Scoville Units: 30.000-60.000"
The Pequin is a cultivated form of the wild chilli varieties Chiltepin or Tepin that occurs in South and Central America. This type of chilli thrives particularly well in desert-like, hot regions of Mexico, New Mexico or Texas. The chilli is probably named after the Spanish-Portuguese word ¨pequeño¨, which translates as ¨small¨ or small chilli. Occasionally the pequin is also called ¨bird chilli¨, not to be confused with the ¨birds eye chilli¨ from Africa. Birds love the fruity aroma of the thin-walled Pequin chilli. This type of chilli has a sweet, slightly lemony aroma, occasionally with smoky nuances. Pequin chillies have a pleasant fiery heat and are suitable for salsas, soups, stews, pasta, sauces and spicy Tex-Mex cuisine.
