Kala Namak | fine | 0.3-0.5 mm

Product information "Kala Namak | fine | 0.3-0.5 mm"

What is it about / Product description

This Kala Namak salt from Biova is a traditional black salt from Pakistan with a fine grain size of 0.3–0.5 mm. It is characterized by its dark, violet to grey coloration and its distinctive aroma reminiscent of boiled eggs. As an exotic seasoning salt, it brings the authentic flavour of Indian cuisine to your dishes.

Through special processing with the plant Salsola stocksii, a natural rock salt with a high sulphur content and mineral character is created. The fine structure ensures an even distribution of the aroma and makes the salt ideal for seasoning at the table. Biova relies on carefully selected bulk goods of consistently high quality.

In vegan cuisine, Kala Namak salt is particularly popular for giving dishes an egg-like taste, for example in scrambled tofu or sandwich spreads. It also refines chutneys, fruit salads, raitas or savoury snacks from Indian street food. Thanks to its fine grain size, Biova’s black salt can be dosed precisely and used in many ways in creative seasoning.

Origin

The black salt comes from Pakistan, a traditional region of origin for rock salts with volcanically shaped deposits. The dry climate and geological conditions favour the formation of mineral-rich salt veins. Selected batches are processed for Biova and prepared for export.

Cultivation / Production / Harvest

For production, natural crystal salt is boiled with parts of the plant Salsola stocksii. Through this process, sulphur compounds and minerals combine with the salt and define its colour and aroma. After cooling, the resulting black salt is dried, milled and sieved to the fine grain size of 0.3–0.5 mm.

Special features

Typical of Kala Namak is the intense, sulphurous aroma reminiscent of boiled eggs, which gives dishes a distinctive flavour. Unlike conventional table salt, it is a special rock salt with a characteristic violet-grey colour. The fine, almost flaky structure makes it particularly soluble and ideal for final seasoning.

Differences in origin and processing

Depending on the region of origin, the colour and intensity of the black salt may vary slightly, as the mineral content and composition of the salt deposits differ. The traditional boiling with Salsola stocksii clearly distinguishes Kala Namak from other rock salts, which are usually only dried and milled. For Biova, batches with consistent quality and typical aroma are selected.

Taste & aroma

In terms of sensory profile, Kala Namak salt offers a salty, mineral taste with clearly perceptible sulphur notes. The aroma is reminiscent of boiled eggs and unfolds particularly when it comes into contact with warm dishes. Used in small quantities, it gives dishes depth and an authentic Indian flavour note.
