Kala Namak | fine | 0.3-0.5 mm

Product information "Kala Namak | fine | 0.3-0.5 mm"

What it is / Product description

Kala Namak salt from Biova is a traditional Indian black salt from Pakistan with a fine grain size of 0.3–0.5 mm. The purple to dark gray color and the characteristic aroma reminiscent of boiled eggs make this rock salt a distinctive seasoning for creative cooking. As a vegan egg salt, it brings authentic flavors of South Asian cuisine to your dishes.

Through the classic cooking of crystal salt with the plant Salsola stocksii, a natural rock salt with a high sulfur content and mineral character is created. The fine, almost flaky structure ensures an even distribution of the aroma and good solubility. Biova relies on carefully selected bulk goods with consistent quality, ideal for gastronomy and discerning home cooks.

In vegan cuisine, Kala Namak salt is valued for giving dishes an egg-like taste, for example in scrambled tofu, spreads or sandwich creams. The black salt also refines fruit salads, chutneys, raitas and snacks from Indian street food cuisine. Thanks to its fine grain size, Biova black salt can be dosed precisely and used in many ways in seasoning.

Origin

The black salt comes from Pakistan, a traditional region for mineral-rich rock salts with volcanically shaped deposits. The dry climate and geological conditions favor the formation of high-quality salt veins. Selected batches are processed for Biova and exported as bulk goods.

Cultivation / Production / Harvest

For production, natural crystal salt is cooked with parts of the plant Salsola stocksii. During this process, sulfur compounds and minerals combine with the salt and shape its color, smell and taste. After cooling, the resulting black salt is dried, ground and carefully sieved to 0.3–0.5 mm.

Special features

Typical of Biova Kala Namak is the intense, sulfurous aroma reminiscent of boiled eggs, which gives dishes an unmistakable flavor. Unlike conventional table salt, this is a special rock salt with a characteristic violet-gray coloration. The fine, flaky structure makes it particularly soluble and ideal for final seasoning directly at the table.

Differences in origin and processing

Depending on the deposit, the color and intensity of the black salt can vary slightly, as the mineral content and composition of the salt veins differ. The traditional cooking with Salsola stocksii clearly distinguishes Kala Namak from other rock salts, which are usually only dried and ground. For Biova, batches with consistent quality and a typically intense aroma are selected.

Taste & aroma

Sensory-wise, the salt offers a salty, mineral taste with clearly perceptible sulfur notes. The aroma is reminiscent of boiled eggs and unfolds particularly when it comes into contact with warm dishes. Used in small quantities, Kala Namak gives dishes depth and an authentic Indian flavor note.
