Kalahari desert salt | fine | 0.1-0.6 mm

Product information "Kalahari desert salt | fine | 0.1-0.6 mm"

What is it about / Product description

This Kalahari desert salt is a pure, fine spring water or lake salt from the unspoiled Kalahari in South Africa. The white, uniformly fine salt with a grain size of 0.1–0.6 mm dissolves quickly and is ideal for everyday cooking and seasoning. As a high-quality gourmet salt, it complements Biova’s selection of unrefined salts.

Thanks to gentle sun-drying and its pure origin, Biova salt impresses with a high degree of purity and a natural content of minerals and trace elements. It is processed without anti-caking agents, additives or chemical treatment and is harvested by hand. The fine grain size allows for precise dosing and ensures an even distribution in the dish.

In the kitchen, Kalahari desert salt is versatile – from soups and sauces to vegetables and meat and even delicate salads. Thanks to its fine structure, it is also excellent for salt shakers and for use in the food service industry as bulk goods. This Biova natural salt can thus be used reliably both in private households and in professional kitchens.

Origin

The salt comes from an ancient, underground-fed salt lake in the Kalahari Desert in southern Africa. The region is sparsely populated and free from industrial use, providing an exceptionally clean starting point. The dry desert climate promotes the natural crystallisation and drying of the salt.

Cultivation / Production / Harvest

Kalahari desert salt is obtained as spring water or lake salt, with salty water rising to the surface and evaporating in ponds. The resulting salt crystals are carefully harvested by hand and then dried in the sun. No further industrial refining takes place, so the salt retains its original character.

Special features

This fine desert salt is a pure natural salt without additives and is characterised by its light white colour and uniform grain size. Compared to many refined table salts, the natural mineral structure is preserved. As bulk goods, it is ideal for large-scale consumers, manufacturers and high-end gastronomy.

Differences in origin and processing

In contrast to sea salt from coastal regions, this salt comes from an inland salt lake far from industrial influences. Extraction in the Kalahari is carried out traditionally by hand and without mechanical refining. This clearly distinguishes it from industrially produced table salts with additives such as anti-caking agents or iodine.

Taste & aroma

Kalahari desert salt has a pure, clear salty taste without intrusive off-flavours. It supports the natural flavour of the ingredients instead of overpowering it. It is neutral in smell and therefore suits both hearty and delicate, sensitive dishes.
