Corporate Principles
Biova GmbH focuses on quality, sustainability, and ethical business practices. We strive to always offer our customers the best products and services.
1. Exploring New Paths
Spices are among the oldest trade goods in history. They are considered rare and desirable, capable of transforming flavors, sometimes even intoxicating, and often health-promoting. However, with industrialization, many wonderful and exotic spices have been replaced by mass-produced industrial alternatives. Spices that were once worth their weight in gold are sometimes sold below their true value, often at the expense of both people and quality. To facilitate machine processing or extend shelf life, additives and anti-caking agents are frequently used.
At Biova, we specialize in finding and making available to the European spice market those spices that are difficult to harvest, not widely available, take a long time to grow, cannot be cultivated, and come 100% from wild growth - ideally organic and without additives. No journey is too far, no project too difficult, and no delivery time too long for us. A core Biova principle: Don't follow beaten paths - pave new ones. This philosophy applies to everything we do at Biova, from products and distribution channels to marketing, production, and customer service.

2. Our Goals
Our top priority is to provide our customers with maximum value, ensuring the highest level of customer satisfaction. This includes continuously improving our customer service, understanding our customers' needs, and acting accordingly.

3. Products & Additives
We completely avoid any additives, preservatives, flavor enhancers, colorants, anti-caking agents, and allergens in all our salts, spices, and spice blends. Additionally, we do not use any added sugars in our spice blends. We sell only high-quality products - without compromise.
Our primary preference is for organic spices. However, in some cases, large agricultural areas are not certified organic, leaving only the option of sourcing spices from wild growth or conventional farming. Our goal is to develop and use sustainable packaging - ideally without plastic. This also includes refillable packaging or packaging that can be repurposed (upcycling).

4. Import, Packaging & Shipping
For shipping our goods, we exclusively use paper or recycled paper. This applies not only to the cartons used but also to the packing material. In-house, we produce our own filling material from old cardboard boxes. Our goal is to deliver our goods to customers in the most environmentally friendly way possible. More than 80% of our parcel shipments are sent via DHL GoGreen, meaning they are CO2-neutral. We expect all our service providers to operate in a CO2-neutral manner.
For imported goods, we prioritize sea freight or transportation via the Trans-Siberian Railway whenever possible, avoiding air freight whenever feasible. The final transport leg within Europe for our overseas containers is always carried out via the European rail network. This not only reduces environmental impact but also eases the burden on highways.

5. Environment & Nature
Sustainability and environmental responsibility are key aspects of our corporate philosophy, aimed at protecting the environment and ensuring that future generations inherit a healthy planet. Our goal is to use existing resources as efficiently and carefully as possible. Ideally, we strive to leave the Earth in a better condition than we found it. At Biova, we now produce more electricity and energy than we consume for heating and power, making us CO2-neutral.
We have installed a 50 kW/p photovoltaic system on our roof, and our vehicle fleet has been almost entirely converted to electric cars. In the near future, we aim to operate completely paperless. Our building is highly insulated, resulting in an energy consumption of just 17 kWh/m², meeting the highest modern standards. Our ultimate goal is to generate more energy and resources than we consume, while maximizing our efforts to protect and preserve the environment.

6. Suppliers & Partners
At Biova, our suppliers are also our partners. Our guiding principle is to build long-term, fair, honest, loyal, and successful partnerships. We seek and foster strong partnerships that are enjoyable and mutually beneficial. Biova does not buy from the cheapest supplier but from the BEST! We expect our suppliers to adhere to standards and ethical principles (compliance), as well as to comply with national and international laws and regulations, including environmental protection, human rights, the prohibition of child labor, the prevention of any form of discrimination, and occupational safety.
Biova aims to source as many products as possible directly from farmers or at the origin, ensuring that we know our suppliers personally. This guarantees high product quality, allows for product development or improvement when necessary, and ensures direct payments to producers without intermediaries. Despite higher procurement costs, Biova can always offer products at competitive prices.

7. Employees
Diligence, loyalty, honesty, respect, mutual appreciation, and recognition are highly valued at Biova. We provide optimal working conditions in a modern building equipped with the latest technology, state-of-the-art IT infrastructure, and ergonomic workspaces.
Every employee is considered equal in all positions, regardless of status, tenure, origin, religion, age, or gender. This principle also applies to career advancement opportunities within the company. Bullying and the exclusion of individual employees are strictly prohibited.
Our employees always have the opportunity to develop within their field and further their education through internal and external training programs. Compliance with labor conditions, fair wages, and ethical principles is not only a given at Biova - it is our commitment to exceed these standards.

8. Leadership Style
At Biova, both management and department heads follow a "cooperative leadership style." This means that employees' opinions matter. Decisions are made and implemented together, and problems are solved collectively. The ultimate goal is to foster employees' self-motivation!

9. Politics and Religion
We warmly welcome people of all origins to our team. We tolerate and accept all forms of religion and political opinions, but we also distance ourselves from any kind of radicalization! To avoid unnecessary conflicts and damage to any (business) relationships, we refrain from any discussions or statements regarding politics and religion, both internally and externally.
