Product descriptionGuérande sea salt comes from traditional salt marshes on the French Atlantic coast and is offered here in a coarse, re-dried grade. The naturally grey crystals under 6 mm give this unrefined table salt its authentic, regionally typical character. Thanks to gentle harvesting, re-drying and careful batch selection, Biova offers a sea salt with consistent quality and good free-flowing properties. The coarse crystals dissolve more slowly, allowing precise seasoning during cooking and at the table. In the kitchen, this coarse sea salt is highly versatile: it is ideal for salt mills, salt crusts and for coarse salting before cooking. This makes Guérande sea salt a reliable everyday staple for home cooking, barbecues and professional kitchens.OriginThis sea salt comes from the Guérande region in France, where mild temperatures, sunshine and Atlantic winds support the natural evaporation of Atlantic seawater. The long salt-making tradition of the marshes ensures consistently high quality, which Biova specifically selects for this product.Cultivation / production / harvestAtlantic seawater is channelled into shallow ponds and concentrated solely by sun and wind. The paludiers (salt workers) push the forming coarse crystals together by hand using wooden tools, before the salt is re-dried and packed for Biova into 1 kg bags without any additives.Special featuresIts slightly grey colour is characteristic and results from contact with the clay-rich pond floor. The coarse grain size under 6 mm ensures slow solubility and a noticeable texture when finishing dishes, while the sea salt remains unrefined and retains part of its original mineral content.Origin and processing comparedUnlike industrially evaporated vacuum or rock salt, this sea salt is created purely through natural evaporation. The artisanal harvest in Guérande produces irregular, coarse crystals with a typical structure and a distinct regional flavour that sets it apart from many other sea salts.Taste & aromaGuérande sea salt delivers a clean, salty taste with a subtle mineral note. Product descriptionDiscover Spanish rock salt from the Catalan hinterland, finely milled to around 0.3–0.5 mm with a delicate pink hue. This natural table salt from Biova has a mild, well-balanced saltiness that blends unobtrusively into everyday cooking. Thanks to its naturally higher potassium content, the sodium chloride level is below 75%, making this reduced-sodium rock salt an interesting alternative to conventional table salt. The fine grain size allows precise dosing, so you can reduce sodium intake in your daily Biova kitchen without losing a pleasant salty note.OriginThe salt comes from underground rock salt deposits in the Catalan hinterland of Spain, remnants of an ancient primordial sea. The dry Mediterranean climate and stable geology of the region favour particularly pure rock salt layers, which Biova sources directly.Cultivation / production / harvestSpanish rock salt is extracted by traditional mining and gently loosened from the salt deposit. It is then mechanically cleaned and milled to a fine grain of around 0.3–0.5 mm – ideal as loose bulk salt for shakers and everyday use, completely free from chemical additives.Special featuresA key characteristic is its naturally high potassium content, which results in a reduced sodium chloride content of under 75%. Minerals such as iron lend this pink rock salt its subtle colour and mild, rounded aroma; no lysine hydrochloride or anti-caking agents are added.Differences in origin and processingCompared with many Central European rock salts, this Catalan variety has a different mineral profile with a higher potassium share. Product descriptionPetalos salt flakes from Spain are delicate white rock salt flakes with a fine to flaky grain size of 0.1–8.0 mm. The light Biova crystals are ideal as a decorative finishing salt for professional kitchens and food service.Because they are produced from controlled rock salt brine in a closed system, the flakes retain their typical leaf-like structure and consistently high Biova quality. The bulk product is easy to handle, dose precisely and pack in many different formats. In everyday cooking as well as in fine dining, these mild salt flakes add a subtle crunch to meat, fish, vegetables, salads or fresh bread. Thanks to their structure you can crumble the flakes between your fingers and use them as a finger salt directly on the plate.OriginThe salt flakes come from a mountain region in the Spanish province of Alicante, around 40 km from the Mediterranean Sea. Here, the traditional La Fortuna saltworks uses a natural rock salt brine, while the sunny, dry climate supports even crystallisation.Cultivation / production / harvestThe rock salt brine is carefully fed into a closed system and concentrated mainly by sun and wind. The resulting salt petals are skimmed off by hand, selected, gently dried and packed as fine to flaky salt flakes in bulk.Special featuresThese white rock salt flakes are characterised by their irregular, leaf-like structure and a grain size of 0.1–8.0 mm. No additives are used, resulting in a natural Biova flake salt that enhances dishes visually and in texture and is ideal as a finger salt at the table.Differences in origin and processingUnlike sea salt flakes from open seawater saltworks, this flake salt is based on a controlled inland rock salt brine. The closed system reduces external influences and ensures consistent quality, while slow crystallisation and manual processing clearly distinguish the delicate flakes from industrially milled table salt.Taste & aromaPetalos salt flakes taste pleasantly mild and salty and are less sharp than finely ground table salt. Thanks to their airy structure, the flakes dissolve slowly on the tongue, remain neutral in aroma and allow the natural flavour of the food to take centre stage.Suggested usesAs a finishing salt to round off grilled meat, fish or vegetables just before serving. To refine salads, carpaccio, bruschetta, antipasti or freshly baked bread as a decorative white flake salt.As a premium table salt in bowls or grinders for food service, gourmet retail packing and home kitchens.Product specificationCountry of origin: SpainGrain size: 0.1–8.0 mm, fine to flakyColour: WhiteSalt type: Flake salt from rock salt brineProduct type: Food / seasoning, bulk productWeight per unit: approx. 1.05 kg bulk product

Product descriptionOrganic smoked sea salt combines unrefined Croatian sea salt with a finely balanced beechwood smoke aroma. The brown 1–3 mm granules are coarse, decorative and easy to dose – ideal for kitchens, artisan producers and the barbecue sector.Gentle cold smoking in Germany preserves the crystal structure while developing an intense yet not overpowering smokiness. Biova smoked salt is particularly suitable wherever an even smoke flavour and a robust, granulated texture are required.Whether for BBQ rubs, marinades, sauces or vegan and vegetarian dishes – these smoked salt granules add classic grill character to countless recipes. That makes it a versatile staple for professional kitchens, fine food producers and discerning home cooks.OriginThe sea salt comes from traditional salt pans on the Croatian coast, where clean seawater, sun and wind ensure consistent quality. In Germany, in the heart of Saxony, it is further refined exclusively for Biova by an experienced smoke master.Cultivation / Production / HarvestThe sea salt is produced by natural evaporation in shallow basins, then harvested by hand and gently dried. It is then transported to Germany and cold-smoked over beechwood chips under controlled conditions to create uniform 1–3 mm granules.Special featuresBiova smoked salt is cold-smoked, creating a deep, harmonious smoke aroma without affecting the salt structure. The brown colour develops solely through contact with the smoke, with no added flavourings, colourings or anti-caking agents – ideal for bulk use, rubs and decorative finishing.Origin and processing differencesUnlike many smoked salts based on rock salt, this product combines traditionally harvested sea salt with German smoking craftsmanship. Cold smoking over beechwood imparts a warm, woody aroma that clearly sets it apart from heavily flavoured or liquid-smoked salts.Taste & aromaOn the nose, the smoked salt evokes beechwood, BBQ and campfire with savoury, hearty notes. The taste is distinctly salty with a pronounced yet well-balanced smokiness that unfolds slowly thanks to the coarse grain and remains easy to dose both during cooking and for finishing.Suggested usesAs a base for BBQ rubs, marinades and grill sauces for meat, fish or vegetables. To season egg dishes, tofu, soups, stews and vegan dishes. In delicatessen products, spice blends and artisan production as an aromatic smoked salt granulate supplied in bulk.Product specificationCountry of origin: Croatia (sea salt), Germany (smoking)Grain size: Granules 1–3 mm, granulated / crushed / coarseColour: Brown

Product descriptionThis Greek smoked salt combines unrefined sea salt from the north-west Aegean with slowly built-up beech smoke to create a fine, free-flowing gourmet salt. The 0.2–1.0 mm grain size ensures an even distribution of the smoke aroma and gives the salt a warm brown, appetising appearance. At Biova, the Mediterranean sea salt is gently cold-smoked for one week, without additives or artificial flavourings. Its fine, slightly flaky texture makes the smoked salt economical in use, easy to dose and ideal for foodservice bulk packs as well as demanding home kitchens.Use this smoked salt to give grilled dishes, stews or pan-fried dishes an authentic BBQ flavour – even without a grill. In vegetarian and vegan cooking in particular, Biova smoked salt is a flavourful alternative to classic bacon and grill notes.OriginThe sea salt comes from traditional salt pans in the north-west Aegean in Greece, where clean seawater and plenty of sunshine ensure consistent quality. These conditions provide a natural, unrefined salt as the basis for refinement at Biova.Cultivation / Production / HarvestSeawater is channelled into shallow evaporation ponds, where sun and wind increase the salt concentration until crystals form. After cleaning and grading, the salt is cold-smoked over beech wood smoke for one week, producing the fine smoked salt with a 0.2–1.0 mm grain size.Special featuresGentle cold-smoking over pure beech wood creates an intense yet well-balanced smoke flavour without added aromas. The fine, slightly flaky structure makes Biova smoked salt economical, free-flowing and ideal for bulk and pre-packed units in the delicatessen and foodservice sectors.Differences in origin and processingUnlike smoked salts based on rock salt, this product uses mild Mediterranean sea salt from Greece. The long, continuous cold-smoking process delivers a deeper, more natural smoke note than briefly smoked or merely flavoured alternatives and is suitable both for cooking and as a finishing salt.Taste & aromaOn the palate, the smoked salt shows clear salinity and a warm, woody smokiness reminiscent of campfires and BBQ. The aroma is intense but not harsh, and thanks to the fine grain size it disperses evenly in savoury dishes.Suggested usesTo season grilled vegetables, baked potatoes and vegan burgers with a bold BBQ flavour. As a finishing salt for steaks, fish, soups and stews just before serving. In marinades, dips, sauces and rubs to add smokiness without using a smoker.Product specificationCountry of origin: GreeceGrain size: fine, 0.2–1.0 mmColour: intense brownSalt type: smoked salt from Mediterranean sea saltProcessing: cold-smoked over beech wood smoke for one weekPack type: bulk, approx. 1.05 kg per unit

Product descriptionBiova Mediterranean pyramid salt is a delicate flake salt made from pure sea brine with its characteristic pyramid shape. The light, white sea salt flakes from Cyprus are crisp, dissolve quickly and add a subtle finishing touch to dishes.Gentle crystallisation creates thin, hollow pyramid flakes with a mildly salty flavour and pleasant mouthfeel. The fine, flaky grain size of around 1–12 mm is easy to crumble between your fingers and makes this flake salt an attractive bulk option for professional kitchens and foodservice. In use, Mediterranean pyramid salt is highly versatile – from finger salt at the table to a delicate finishing salt for refined dishes. Use the sea salt flakes as a decorative topping to highlight texture and flavour.OriginThese white salt flakes come from the Mediterranean island of Cyprus, with its sunny climate and clean seawater. These natural conditions are the basis for Biova’s consistently high-quality flake salts.Cultivation / production / harvestFor this flake salt, sea brine is drawn from an exceptionally pure stretch of coastline, carefully filtered and crystallised in shallow heated pans. The pyramid flakes that form on the surface are skimmed off by hand and gently dried to preserve their delicate structure.CharacteristicsTypical are the light, pyramid-shaped crystals, clearly different from compactly crystallised sea salt. The fine, flaky grain ensures even salt distribution and a pleasant crunch, and makes Biova’s white flake salt in bulk ideal for high-volume users.Differences in origin and processingUnlike classic sea salt from open salt pans, Mediterranean pyramid salt is deliberately crystallised in heated pans. This creates hollow pyramid structures instead of broken crystals, while predominantly manual handling preserves the decorative flake shape.Taste & aromaOn the palate, the flake salt is mildly salty with a clear, clean note. The fine sea salt flakes dissolve quickly without metallic tones, and their neutral aroma makes them easy to pair with meat, fish, vegetables and delicate starters.Suggested usesAs a finger salt for seasoning grilled meat, fish and vegetables directly at the table. To finish salads, carpaccio, bruschetta and antipasti just before serving. As a decorative finishing salt for gourmet dishes, finger food, buffets and plate decoration in foodservice.Product specificationCountry of origin: CyprusGrain size: flakes, approx. 1–12 mm, fine / flakyColour: white

Product descriptionThis Thar desert salt comes from natural salt lakes in the Thar Desert in Pakistan and is supplied as coarse granules of 0.1–5.0 mm. The cream-grey natural salt is formed from brine-rich spring and lake water that crystallises under intense sun. Thanks to the largely non-industrial region, the natural diversity of minerals is largely preserved. In Biova’s partner production, the desert salt is only washed, dried, granulated and packed – with no chemical additives or anti-caking agents. In the kitchen, the granules impress with a robust, clean and slightly bitter saltiness that is extremely versatile. Use Thar desert salt in a grinder, in a mortar or directly in cooking water for soups, vegetable, rice and meat dishes.OriginThe salt comes from the Thar Desert in the border region between Pakistan and India, not far from the Arabian Sea. The dry, sunny climate and the sparsely populated, industry-free landscape ensure natural purity and consistent Biova quality.Cultivation / production / harvestBrine-rich spring and lake water collects in shallow ponds and evaporates through sun and wind. This leaves salt layers that are gently harvested, cleaned, dried and sieved to a granule size of 0.1–5.0 mm before being filled by Biova as bulk units of approx. 1.05 kg.Special featuresAs a natural spring and lake salt, this desert salt has a cream-grey, slightly irregular appearance. It is not bleached, not blended with anti-caking agents and its coarse, granulated structure is ideal for grinders, dry spice blends and applications where the salt should dissolve slowly.Differences in origin and processingUnlike classic sea salts from coastal regions, this desert salt is formed inland from underground brine. Evaporation under extremely dry desert conditions creates compact crystals with an intense, clearly defined flavour and sets it visually apart from many white lake salts in the Biova range.Taste & aromaSensory-wise, the granules offer a strong, clean saltiness with a slightly bitter note and feel less harsh on the palate than highly refined table salt. They support the natural flavours of dishes, are neutral in smell and combine well with a wide range of other spices.Possible usesAs an all-purpose table salt in a grinder for kitchen, foodservice and table useFor seasoning soups, stews, vegetable, meat and fish dishesFor cooking water for pasta, potatoes, rice or for pickling and marinating vegetablesProduct specificationCountry of origin: PakistanGrain size: granules 0.1–5.0 mmColour: cream-grey, white

Product descriptionOur Salish Alderwood smoked salt starts with natural sea salt that is gently cold-smoked over alder wood. The coarse brown granules (1–3 mm) look similar to traditional foods smoked over wood.Several days of cold smoking in the Biova manufactory give this smoked salt an intense yet well-balanced smokiness with a mild saltiness. Careful processing ensures an even colour, stable aroma and reliable quality for bulk buyers. In the kitchen, Salish Alderwood smoked salt adds an authentic smoky note to grilled dishes, stews, salads and vegetarian food. Thanks to its coarse grain size, the granulated smoked salt is ideal for grinders, BBQ rubs, marinades and custom spice blends.OriginThe sea salt comes from selected coastal regions in Germany and Croatia with clean sea air and a temperate climate. In Germany it is artisanally refined into alderwood smoked salt at the Biova production site.Cultivation / production / harvestThe sea salt is obtained by evaporating seawater and then gently dried. Biova then cold-smokes the coarse granules for up to 16 days over alder wood, with several smoking intervals, turning and aeration.CharacteristicsTypical are the natural alderwood smoke aroma, the mild salinity and the granulated grain size of around 1–3 mm. The brown smoked salt is supplied in bulk, specifically for high-volume users, foodservice and spice mills.Differences in origin and processingSlight differences in the mineral content of the German and Croatian salt sources subtly influence crystal structure and solubility. Salt is one of the basic ingredients in the kitchen that everyone has at home and not much thought is actually given to the little white grains. But there are so many different ways to enjoy them! Why not indulge yourself more in your everyday life and try out how table salt can really taste! We will introduce you to the extensive variety. Further information »
We specialise in gourmet salts and natural salts, which means that we only offer you products in their natural and pure form. No refined and processed table salts, but only those found in nature. Because there is a lot to discover there! Have you already tried the fine fleur de sel? It doesn't have a granular structure, but is more like a snowflake with its flat, large appearance and fine architecture. As a result, it melts on the tongue and gives a finer salty flavour than conventional products. Fleur de Sel is particularly good as a finish on savoury dishes. Of course, we also offer well-chosen sea salts, for example from Africa, the Dead Sea or Italy. Our range also includes rock salts. These delicacies are truly ancient spices, as they were formed many millions of years ago when the seas evaporated and only the sea salt remained. The fact that a wide variety of sediments have been deposited on it over the years, allowing a wide range of accompanying minerals to mix in, means that it impresses with its dazzling colours - from pink to blue.
We guarantee you the highest quality of our natural salts, because we select our products according to very strict criteria and only include those that we are really convinced of. As we are a direct importer and not a wholesaler, you can rely on reasonable prices in addition to excellent quality. We supply the retail and wholesale trade, as well as the processing industry, and are delighted with the growing number of customers each year.
We also attach great importance to ecological and humane behaviour. We are aware that many of our salts do not come from the region, but from far away. That's why we try to do our bit by heating our warehouse with a photovoltaic system. We also endeavour to ensure fair working conditions, both for our domestic employees and for our suppliers worldwide. This makes gourmet salt taste even better.
Because not all salt is the same, we guarantee
- that we only trade in selected and tested salts - in line with our standards
- that we do not use child labour in the production and processing of the products in our range. This is how we contribute to the preservation of human rights around the world
- that we pay the processors sufficient wages to counteract impoverishment and exploitation
- that we have our salts tested again in Germany so that we can supply you with the best quality
