This pink crystal salt from the Salt Range in Pakistan is a natural rock salt with delicately shimmering light pink crystals in a coarse 2–5 mm grain. It is ideal as table salt for grinders and as a decorative gourmet salt in the kitchen.

For Biova, this natural rock salt is only mechanically crushed, washed and gently dried, with no chemical additives or refining. The uniform grain size ensures easy dosing and consistently reliable quality, including for bulk packs and further processing.

Origin

The rock salt comes from the Salt Range in the Punjab province of Pakistan, around 200 kilometres southwest of the Himalayas. The deposits are known for their consistent purity and the stable, delicately pink hue of the crystal salt.

Production

The natural rock salt is mined in open-cast and underground operations from massive rock salt seams. After extraction it is crushed for Biova, graded by grain size, sieved to a granulate of around 2–5 mm, washed and gently dried.

Characteristics

Its characteristic feature is the natural pink to light pink colour caused by iron oxide, which gives the salt its decorative appearance. As a coarse rock salt granulate it is particularly suitable for grinders, bulk supply for processors and as a decorative gourmet salt in food applications.

Differences in origin and processing

Unlike sea salt or evaporated salt, this crystal salt is not obtained from water but mined directly from fossil deposits. The largely mechanical processing without chemical refining preserves the original structure and sets it apart from refined table salt.

Taste & aroma

On the palate it offers a mild, clean saltiness without intrusive off-flavours. The pink rock salt tastes less harsh than some highly refined table salts and is neutral in aroma, so it supports rather than masks the natural flavour of your ingredients.
