Product information "Organic sea salt Sal Tradicional granules 0.1–5 mm"
Product description
Organic sea salt from traditional saltworks in the Algarve is harvested in the Ria Formosa lagoon landscape on the Portuguese Atlantic coast. The natural white granules with a grain size of 0.1–5.0 mm are a versatile kitchen salt for everyday cooking, foodservice and spice production.
Sun, wind and careful manual work create an unrefined sea salt with no additives that preserves its natural mineral composition. The even, free-flowing granule structure meets Biova’s quality standards for transparent origin and gentle processing.
In the kitchen, this organic sea salt is highly versatile – from everyday basic cooking to finishing Mediterranean dishes. The granules can be used in a mortar, in a salt mill or added directly during cooking, and are ideal for spice blends as well as larger-volume use in professional kitchens.
Origin
The sea salt comes from Portugal, from the traditional saltworks of the Algarve in the Ria Formosa nature reserve. The mild Atlantic climate with many sunny days and constant wind ensures natural evaporation and consistently high raw material quality.
Cultivation / production / harvest
Fresh Atlantic water is channelled into shallow evaporation ponds and concentrated solely by sun and wind. Once crystals have formed, experienced salt workers harvest the salt by hand with wooden rakes, dry it in the sun, gently granulate it and pack it as Biova bulk product with approx. 1.05 kg per unit.
Special features
Sal Tradicional is processed without chemical refining, without bleaching agents and without anti-caking agents. The artisanal production preserves the natural mineral composition, results in a slightly irregular granule structure and combines traditional sea salt with modern, easy-to-dose kitchen use.
Origin and processing differences
Unlike industrially produced vacuum salt, this Portuguese sea salt is made in small, artisan-run saltworks. The combination of Atlantic water, natural evaporation and consistent manual work shapes the authentic character of this Biova bulk product and sets it apart from heavily refined standard table salts.
Taste & aroma
On the palate, the sea salt is mildly salty with a clear, clean salt note and no dominant bitterness. The fine minerals support balanced seasoning without masking other flavours, and the almost odourless salt blends discreetly into vegetable, meat, fish and plant-based dishes.
