Origin

The crystal salt is mined in the Salt Range in Pakistan’s Punjab province, around 200 kilometres southwest of the Himalayas. The region is known for consistently high raw material quality and pink rock salt with a distinctive dark pink hue.

Cultivation / Production / Harvest

As a fossil rock salt, this natural salt comes from ancient seas and is extracted by underground mining. After being brought to the surface, the salt blocks are mechanically crushed, washed and graded to a coarse 2–4 mm granule size without any chemical additives.

Special features

The intense dark pink colour is caused by naturally occurring iron oxide in the rock. Thanks to its coarse, granulated structure, Biova crystal salt dissolves more slowly, making it ideal for mills, long cooking processes, salt crusts and use in spice blends.

Differences in origin and processing

Unlike sea salt obtained from evaporated seawater, this is a fossil crystal salt from deep underground deposits. Traditional mining and purely mechanical processing clearly distinguish it from industrially refined table salt and preserve its mild flavour and decorative pink appearance.
