Product information "Crystal salt | granulate | 2-5 mm | light pink"
What is it about / Product description
This crystal salt from Pakistan is a natural rock salt with a characteristic, delicate light pink appearance. It comes from ancient salt deposits in the Salt Range and is offered as coarse granules with a grain size of 2–5 mm. The salt is ideal as a daily table salt and as a decorative gourmet salt.
The subtle reddish coloration of the crystal salt is caused by naturally occurring iron oxide and gives every dish an appealing look. For this rock salt, Biova relies on gentle processing without additives, anti-caking agents or chemical treatment. This way you receive consistent quality as bulk goods, suitable both for private use and for professional kitchens.
In the kitchen, the crystal salt can be used in many ways, for example in a mill, in a mortar or for brines and saline solutions. The coarse granules are ideal for seasoning dishes in a targeted way during cooking or at the table and for enhancing them visually. Whether for savory dishes, salads or for finishing – Biova’s pink rock salt brings mild seasoning and a natural, decorative touch to your kitchen.
Origin
The rock salt comes from the Salt Range in the Pakistani province of Punjab, around 200 kilometers southwest of the Himalayas. Some of the largest rock salt deposits in the world with consistently high quality are located there. The dry climate and geological conditions have contributed to the formation of this pure crystal salt over millions of years.
Cultivation / Production / Harvest
As a classic rock salt, this crystal salt is mined in underground and open-pit mines in the Salt Range. The salt veins are extracted in surface and underground mining, then roughly crushed and sorted by grain size. For Biova, the salt is sieved to 2–5 mm granules, washed and dried, without chemical processing or refining.
Special characteristics
Characteristic of this pink rock salt is its natural coloration caused by iron oxide, which can range from light pink to slightly reddish. In contrast to refined table salt, the original crystal structure is preserved. As granulated, coarse salt, it is particularly suitable for mills, decorative applications and as high-quality bulk goods for gastronomy and manufactories.
Differences in origin and processing
Compared to sea salt or evaporated salt, this rock salt is not obtained from seawater but from fossil salt deposits in the mountains. The Pakistani deposits are known for their purity and stable, slightly pink coloration. Due to the predominantly mechanical processing without additives, the crystal salt remains in its natural form, which distinguishes it from many industrially refined salts.
Taste & aroma
Sensory-wise, the crystal salt is characterized by a mild, clear salty taste without intrusive off-flavors. On the palate it is less sharp than some highly refined table salts and supports the natural flavor of the ingredients. In terms of aroma, the salt is neutral and is therefore suitable for fine, well-balanced seasoning.
