Origin

The crystal salt is mined in the Salt Range in the province of Punjab in Pakistan, around 200 kilometres south-west of the Himalayas. The region is known for consistently high raw material quality and pink rock salt with a distinctive dark pink hue.

Cultivation / production / harvest

As a fossil rock salt, this natural salt comes from ancient seas and is extracted by underground mining. After being mined, the salt rocks are mechanically crushed, washed and graded to a coarse granule size of 2–4 mm without any chemical additives.

Special features

The intense dark pink colour is caused by naturally occurring iron oxide in the rock. Thanks to its coarse, granulated structure, Biova crystal salt dissolves more slowly, making it ideal for mills, long cooking processes, salt crusts and use in bulk in spice blends.
