Flor de Sal from the Ebro Delta, Spanish sea salt

Product information "Flor de Sal from the Ebro Delta, Spanish sea salt"

Product description

This Flor de Sal from the Ebro Delta is a natural white sea salt with a fine, flaky texture. In the traditional salt pans on Spain’s Mediterranean coast, the delicate salt flakes form on the water’s surface and are offered by Biova as a mild gourmet salt.

Thanks to gentle harvesting and drying in this protected natural area, the salt largely retains its natural mineral content. The sea salt is processed without additives, carefully graded and packed so that the fine flakes are easy to dose and distribute evenly.

In the kitchen, this Flor de Sal is ideal as a finishing salt for hot and cold dishes. Season meat, fish, vegetables or salads precisely and give your creations a clean, subtle salt note with Biova sea salt.

Origin

This sea salt comes from Spain, more precisely from the Ebro Delta in Catalonia. The sunny maritime climate with plenty of wind and clean seawater favours the formation of fine white sea salts with their characteristic flaky structure.

Cultivation / production / harvest

In shallow evaporation ponds, a thin layer of salt flakes forms on the water’s surface during the summer months. These Flor de Sal crystals are skimmed off by hand, air-dried and packed unrefined in bags of around 1.05 kg.

Special features

Typical of this salt are its fine, flaky grain, bright white colour and natural mineral content. The combination of traditional hand harvesting, gentle processing and origin in a protected natural area makes this Biova sea salt a distinctive speciality.

Differences in origin and processing

Unlike industrially produced vacuum salt, this sea salt is created solely through the natural evaporation of seawater. The specific microclimate of the Ebro Delta and the labour-intensive hand harvest, which is only possible for a few weeks each year, have a clear influence on the texture and taste of the fine salt flakes.

Taste & aroma

In sensory terms, this Flor de Sal offers a mild, clean saltiness without harsh sharpness. The fine flakes dissolve easily, enhance the natural flavours of your dishes and add a fresh, neutral maritime character without off-notes.

Suggested uses

  • Use as a finishing salt for grilled or pan-fried meat, fish and seafood, sprinkled on just before serving.
  • Add the delicate, flaky texture to vegetable dishes, salads, carpaccio or antipasti.
  • Use as a subtle topping of white salt flakes to elevate bread with butter, dips, bruschetta or Mediterranean dishes.
