Organic whole Birds Eye chillies, red, very hot

Product information "Organic whole Birds Eye chillies, red, very hot"

Product description

Biova Organic Birds Eye chillies are intensely hot, dried red pods with a bright, vibrant colour. The small 1–3 mm fruits of the species Capsicum frutescens reach around 90,000–120,000 Scoville heat units and are therefore classed as very hot spice chillies.

Gentle drying as pieces or whole pods preserves the typical flavour with its fresh chilli note and subtle fruitiness to a large extent. Kept whole, the chillies are very economical in use and allow flexible dosing from mildly spicy to very hot – ideal for foodservice, artisan producers and demanding professional kitchens.

In the kitchen these small pods are extremely versatile: they can be simmered, fried or crushed in a mortar to give curries, stews, sauces and marinades a clean, direct heat. This makes Biova Organic Birds Eye chilli a practical choice for hot dishes and creative spice blends.

Origin

Originally native to South America, Birds Eye chilli is now grown in tropical and subtropical regions with warm climates and plenty of sunshine. These conditions promote the development of small, intensely red pods with a high capsaicin content and consistent heat.

Cultivation / processing / harvest

The chilli plants are grown mainly in open fields and harvested once the fruits have fully changed colour from green to red. Immediately after harvest the pods are gently dried, then cleaned, graded by size and packed as whole fruits as Biova bulk goods.

Characteristics

At around 90,000–120,000 Scoville, this Birds Eye chilli sits at the upper end of the 20,001–100,000+ category and is one of the very hot varieties. The small, compact pods are extremely efficient, as even small amounts deliver intense heat and the flavour remains stable for longer in whole form.

Differences in origin and processing

Depending on the growing region, fruitiness, heat intensity and colour nuances vary slightly, influenced by climate, soil structure and sunlight. Gentle drying at Biova ensures a clear chilli heat and fresh aroma, while careful cleaning and grading guarantee consistent bulk quality.

Taste & aroma

In terms of flavour, Birds Eye chilli is similar to Thai chilli, with a direct, long-lasting heat and pronounced capsaicin note. A light fruitiness and subtle pepper notes round off the profile, while the aroma is intensely chilli-like and makes the heat noticeable on the nose.

Suggested uses

  • Seasoning curries, stir-fries and other Asian-inspired dishes
  • Adding heat to soups, stews, tomato sauces and braised dishes
  • For homemade chilli pastes, hot sauces, BBQ rubs and marinades
