Piment d’Espelette AOP, mild, ground, 1 kg catering pack

Product information "Piment d’Espelette AOP, mild, ground, 1 kg catering pack"

Product description

Piment d’Espelette is a traditional chilli seasoning from the French Basque Country. It lends dishes a vibrant red colour and a gently warming heat. This ground Capsicum annuum powder is AOP-certified and sourced exclusively from the Espelette region.

Biova’s catering pack, with around 1,500–3,000 Scoville, delivers a precisely dosable, fruity-aromatic heat for everyday use in professional kitchens. The fine to slightly flaky grind ensures even distribution in spice blends and processed products.

In foodservice, artisan production and catering, this mild chilli powder is extremely versatile – from meat, fish and vegetables to pasta and rice, as well as sauces and marinades. Creative applications such as chocolate, desserts or fruity chutneys also benefit from the characteristic Piment d’Espelette profile.

Origin

This chilli powder comes from Espelette in the French Basque Country, close to the Atlantic coast and the Spanish border. The temperate climate, abundant sunshine and fertile soils support the consistent AOP quality supplied by Biova.

Cultivation / production / harvest

The chilli plants are raised in spring and planted out in the open field from May. From August to the end of October, the fully ripe red pods are harvested by hand, gently dried and milled into a fine to slightly flaky powder.

Key features

Piment d’Espelette is defined by its AOP certification and its clearly profiled, fruity-spicy aroma. The mild heat of approx. 1,500–3,000 Scoville and the intense red colour make it a highly versatile seasoning for professional kitchens and spice manufacturers.

Origin and processing differences

Unlike standard chilli powders, this product comes exclusively from the Espelette AOP area and is processed there according to traditional specifications. Gentle drying and milling preserve colour and aroma, clearly distinguishing Biova quality from standard products from other regions.

Taste & aroma

The spice has an aromatic, fruity fragrance with sweet and slightly smoky notes. On the palate it shows a soft, warming heat that supports dishes without overpowering them, while the fine, slightly flaky grind ensures an even distribution.

Suggested uses

  • Seasoning meat, fish and poultry dishes in restaurants and catering.
  • As a flavourful component in sauces, marinades, soups, stews and spice blends.
