Product information "Piment d`Espelette | ground | red | Scoville Units: 1.500-3.000 | 1kg"

What is it about / Product description

This finely ground Piment d`Espelette from the French Basque Country brings the typical bright red color and a mild heat to your kitchen. The fine chili spice from Capsicum annuum is traditionally grown in Espelette and reaches around 1,500–3,000 Scoville. In the 1 kg bulk pack, it is ideal for professional users, manufacturers and discerning home cooks.

At Biova, authentic origin with AOP certification (Appellation d’Origine Protégée) is paramount, so you receive an original French quality product. The powder is fine to slightly flaky, making it very easy to dose evenly and incorporate into spice blends. Its mild, aromatic-fruity heat makes the spice versatile and easy to tolerate.

Use Piment d`Espelette for meat, fish, vegetables, pasta, rice dishes or to refine sauces and marinades. Creative applications such as chocolate, desserts or fruity compositions also benefit from the subtle heat and the sweet, smoky notes. With the Biova bulk pack you always have sufficient stock for gastronomy, catering or your own spice production.

Origin

The spice comes from Espelette in the French Basque Country, near the Spanish border and the Atlantic coast. The temperate climate and fertile soils offer ideal conditions for chili cultivation. Only products from this region with AOP certification may bear the protected designation.

Cultivation / Production / Harvest

The chili plants are pre-cultivated in greenhouses in February and planted outdoors from around May. Between August and the end of October, the fully ripe red pods are harvested by hand. They are then gently dried and ground into a fine to slightly flaky powder, which Biova offers as bulk goods.

Special features

Piment d`Espelette differs from conventional chili powders through its protected designation of origin and its characteristic aroma profile. The mild heat of 1–5,000 Scoville makes it particularly versatile and suitable for everyday use. The 1 kg unit is ideal for professional kitchens, spice bottlers and resellers.

Differences in origin and processing

In contrast to chilies from other growing regions, this product is cultivated and processed exclusively in the AOP area of Espelette. Traditional drying and gentle grinding preserve the full aroma and the typical red color. Industrial mass-produced goods from other regions usually do not achieve this aromatic depth.

Taste & aroma

The spice has an aromatic-fruity scent with slightly smoky and sweet nuances. On the palate it shows a gentle, warming heat that enhances dishes without overpowering them. The fine grain ensures an even distribution of flavor and color.

Possible applications

  • For seasoning meat, fish and poultry dishes in gastronomy
