Product information "Piment d`Espelette | ground | red | Scoville Units: 1.500-3.000 | 1kg"
What is it? / Product description
Piment d`Espelette is a traditional chili spice from the French Basque Country that gives dishes a bright red color and a mildly warming heat. The aromatic powder from Capsicum annuum is AOP-certified and comes exclusively from the Espelette region. In Biova’s 1 kg bulk pack, it is ideal for gastronomy, manufactories and professional kitchens.
The authentic origin with protected designation of origin guarantees an original French quality product with a clearly defined aroma profile. The fine to slightly flaky grind ensures an even distribution in spice blends and dishes. With around 1,500–3,000 Scoville, this mild chili powder offers a well-controllable, fruity-aromatic heat.
In professional kitchens, Piment d`Espelette can be used in an extremely versatile way – from meat, fish and vegetables to pasta and rice, as well as sauces and marinades. Creative applications such as chocolate, desserts or fruity chutneys also benefit from its slightly sweet and smoky notes. The large pack from Biova provides a reliable stock for gastronomy, catering and commercial spice producers.
Origin
The chili powder comes from Espelette in the French Basque Country, near the Atlantic coast and the Spanish border. The temperate climate with sufficient sunshine and the fertile soils create ideal conditions for growing the pods. Only goods from this clearly defined AOP area may bear the protected designation.
Cultivation / Production / Harvest
The chili plants are pre-cultivated in spring and planted outdoors from May onwards. Between August and the end of October, the fully ripe, intensely red pods are carefully harvested by hand. They are then gently dried and ground into a fine / flaky powder, which Biova offers as a practical bulk product.
Special features
Piment d`Espelette impresses with its protected designation of origin and its characteristic, fruity-spicy aroma profile. The mild heat in the range of around 1,500–3,000 Scoville makes the spice suitable for everyday use and easy to combine in many ways. The 1 kg unit is specifically tailored to professional kitchens, spice packers and resellers.
Differences in origin and processing
Unlike conventional chili powders, this product comes exclusively from the AOP area of Espelette and is processed there according to traditional specifications. Gentle drying and grinding preserve the intense red color and full aroma. Industrially produced goods from other regions generally do not achieve this aromatic depth and defined quality.
Taste & aroma
The spice has an aromatic, fruity scent with sweet and slightly smoky nuances. On the palate, it reveals a gentle, warming heat that enhances dishes without overpowering them. The fine, slightly flaky grind supports an even distribution of flavor and color in the kitchen.
