Product information "Wiri Wiri | cherry chili | whole | 1.2-1.7 cm | dark red | Scoville Units: 60.000-100.000"

What it is / Product description

Wiri Wiri is a rare cherry chili from South America, grown predominantly in Ecuador for Biova. The small, rounded pods of about 1.2–2 cm shine in dark red and reach around 60,000–150,000 Scoville. The intensely fruity, tomato-like aroma gives many dishes a distinctive yet well-balanced heat.

At Biova, the cherry chilies are gently dried and offered as whole pods in high-quality bulk grade, so that essential oils, color and heat are preserved as well as possible. Careful cleaning and sorting ensure a clean, uniform product with easily controllable heat. Thanks to the whole pods, the chili is ideal for professional users, spice manufacturers and demanding home cooks.

In Guyanese, Caribbean and South American cuisine, this cherry chili is a staple ingredient in stews, braised dishes and spicy sauces. Wiri Wiri also brings intense heat and fruity depth to marinades, soups, chili pastes or chili oils. Use the whole Biova pods to give classic recipes an authentic regional touch.

Origin

The cherry chili originally comes from Guyana and is now predominantly cultivated in Ecuador for Biova. The tropical climate with warm temperatures and high humidity allows the dark red fruits to ripen evenly. Strict quality controls ensure a consistent quality of the pods.

Cultivation / Production / Harvest

The plants thrive outdoors under tropical conditions and are only harvested when the fruits are fully ripe and deep red in color. Immediately after harvest, they are gently dried to preserve aroma, color and heat. The whole pods are then cleaned, sorted by size and packed as bulk goods in units of approx. 1.05 kg.

Special features

Characteristic is the combination of compact size, high heat in the range of 60,000–150,000 Scoville and a fruity tomato note. Compared to many other hot varieties, this cherry chili offers a particularly rounded, aromatic flavor profile. The whole form allows flexible use – from slow release of aroma in the dish to later removal of the pod.

Differences in origin and processing

While Wiri Wiri traditionally grows in home gardens in Guyana, Biova quality comes from professional cultivation in Ecuador under controlled conditions. Controlled drying and careful sorting of the whole pods ensure even heat and a product that can be dosed precisely. This makes the cherry chili equally suitable for gastronomy, spice manufacturers and further processors.

Taste & aroma

The cherry chili develops an intense, fruity aroma with a clear tomato note and strong heat reminiscent of habanero. On the nose, there are warm, slightly sweet and bell-pepper-like nuances. In dishes, it creates a lasting heat with aromatic depth that does not taste bitter.
